When you first think about sustainable packaging, you’re probably picturing what can and can’t go into your recycling bin. But packaging has come a long way in recent years in terms of sustainability.
Sustainable packaging is when environmental impacts are minimised through a sustainable product and process. As a business committed to minimising our impact on the environment, we know that sustainable packaging isn’t a nice-to-have, but a must-have.
So, what does a sustainable product and process look like for us at Crystal Print & Packaging Solutions?
We lead the way in adopting industry best practice when it comes to reducing our impact on the environment, which is why we use compostable packaging over biodegradable packaging. The latter doesn’t cut it for our standards, as it doesn’t matter how long it takes to break down to be classified as biodegradable, just as long as it breaks down.
Our plant-based packaging follows the guidelines for being commercially compostable as it is capable of being broken down into compost and used as fertiliser. The guidelines stipulate that the packaging must break down within a 90-day period after being discarded within a compost environment.
Simply put, our packaging is the most sustainable option for our industry. We intend to continue to be top of class when it comes to providing a sustainable packaging product.
We are accredited with an ISO 9001 Quality Management System certification– the international standard for quality management. Our commitment to observing global best practice ensures the highest quality product by the most efficient processes. This focus on efficiency goes hand in hand with sustainability.
Efficiency in our processes sees us reduce waste and be resourceful in the materials and equipment that we use. One example is our use of lithographic printers to allow us to print onto thicker, compostable card. Under the ISO certification, we continually review our processes to ensure that the most efficient and sustainable methods are being applied.
We’re also Western Australia’s only zero carbon printer. This means that no carbon emissions are produced in our printing process. To neutralise our unavoidable emissions in packaging, we purchase carbon credits as offsets through the Carbon Reduction Institute. Any packaging produced under our roof is therefore classified as 100% carbon neutral.
Consumers are now more than ever focused on reducing their impact on the environment. You can be proud of your packaging’s sustainability credentials when you partner with us at Crystal Print & Packaging Solutions. Just as we do not compromise on quality, we do not compromise on sustainability when bringing you the highest grade of packaging products.
This isn’t a tick-the-box exercise for us. We care about the future of our planet. Same as you. Same as your consumer. If you’re looking for a packaging partner that seeks out the most sustainable packaging products and processes, contact us today.
